Energy-responsible Research Infrastructures

KITTEN – Energy Solutions for Accelerators
IBPT KIT

The KIT test field for energy efficiency and grid stability in largescale research infrastructures (KITTEN) is a joint test field of the Karlsruhe Research Accelerator (KARA) and Energy Lab 2.0, Europe’s largest research infrastructure for renewable energy.
KITTEN hosts the EU project Research Facility 2.0: Towards a more energy-efficient and sustainable path. The vision is to design and operate accelerators to run safe and stable anytime on a 100% renewable energy supply. The key lies in the comprehensive analysis, from component to system, both at experimental physics and energy engineering level, and in developing and testing in realistic environments.
